Abu Chokalingam is an overachieving Indian-American architect, born on February 14, 1945. He was born in India and follows the Hindu religion. His zodiac sign is Aquarius. He first immigrated to Nigeria where he met his late wife, Swati, and got married. Later on, they both moved to the United States, where they raised their children. 

Daughter, Actor, Comedian, and Writer Mindy Kaling who has been on several television shows like The Office and Ocean 8 and their son, Vijay Chokalingam.

Talking about his educational credentials, he chose to pursue the Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) program, which typically takes five years to complete for being an Architect by profession. He has completed a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in architecture.

Avu Chokalingam is an architect by profession. However, Avu is most famous for being the father of Mindy Kaling and has a very good relationship with his daughter. He loved the mid century modern style of architecture, and that was reflected in the home where they raised their daughter ‘Mindy’.

Being an overachieving architect primarily, chokalingam also achieved some pop culture notoriety in 2006 when he played his daughter’s character’s father on the U.S version of ‘The Office’. His wife, Swati also played as his wife and Mindly’s character’s daughter on the show.

Marriage And Their Children

Till now, Avu married once in his life. He was married to his late wife Swati Roysircar, a Gynecologist at the age of 30. Spending a prosperous 36 yrs of married life with each other, his beloved wife then passed away due to pancreatic cancer on January 13th,2012 at the age of 66. He hasn’t been married since then and is still living in the United States. 

With his late wife Swati, he had given birth to a daughter Vera Mindy Kaling who is a renowned actress in television shows, and a Son, Vijay Chokalingam who works as an educational consultant and a life coach and is also famous for faking his identity to get into a medical school. He is also a grandfather of his daughter’s two children Katherine Kaling and Spencer Kaling.
